Why appraisal matters
The store page puts it simply: “Rare items need proper appraisal to avoid overpaying” Official. Appraisal works two ways:
- Protecting your buys. Suppliers overstate value, and appraising rare items before you pay keeps you from absorbing the loss Official.
- Selling a service. Appraisal customers bring their items to you and pay for the valuation. This works even when your shelves are empty Community.
Unlocking it
Community milestones from an Apprentice run on the hardest difficulty Community:
- The Appraisal Committee comes to the shop around day 8.
- Membership costs 255 credits.
- At the junior rank, an exact appraisal of an item worth 300 paid 65. Four such jobs cover the fee, before shop costs.
- Before ranking up, compare the upgrade fee with your current job income and how well you know the new items you’ll be asked to value.
Attracting appraisal customers
The appraisal certificate or board goes in the display case Community. Its odds, measured by The Exceptional Fisherman Community:
- An appraisal board has a 33–55% chance, depending on tier, to turn a random customer into an appraisal customer.
- Each failed roll adds 16–27% to the next one, by tier.

Perfect appraisals and the achievement
An Eye for Value, “Get 10 perfect appraisals”, is the second most common achievement. 37.5% of players had it a day after launch Steam data. If you join the committee early, it tends to come during a normal run.
